This article is about The Evil Within 2 weapon. For the weapon of the same name in The Evil Within, see Sniper Rifle.

"This rifle is super-accurate at long range, thanks to its powerful scope. For when you don't want to get your hands dirty."
―Inventory description

The Sniper Rifle is a weapon found in The Evil Within 2.

Found in Chapter 3, it is initially broken, but can be restored to working order with some spare parts found in the same chapter. Functioning units can later be found in Chapters 11, 13 and 15 if the first rifle was missed.

Overview[]

The Sniper Rifle is an immensely powerful weapon available to Sebastian Castellanos, and comes with a two-stage scope that allows him to plug enemies accurately at long ranges. This usually comes in handy when there's a dangerous target ahead that one can't risk getting close to, or are just trying to thin out the horde for an easier time.

That being said, the Sniper Rifle has its fair share of drawbacks, namely its rather limited ammo capacity and very expensive ammo crafting costs even when on-bench. It also has quite a kick to it, which makes it hard to stay on track if the target survived the initial shot and are recovering. This isn't helped by how the rifle has to scope out after every shot to cycle, though with enough practice this can be ignored.

Summary[]

Pros:

  • Very powerful
  • Amazingly accurate despite the heavy scope sway
  • Acquired early on and is adequate against pretty much anything if there's ammo
  • Relatively cheap upgrades

Cons:

  • Ammo capacity is severely limited even with pouches
  • Must scope out after every shot to work the bolt
  • Ammo is expensive to craft even on-bench

Ammo Pouch locations[]

  • Pouch 1: Chapter 6 – Found on dead MOBIUS agent outside the Juke Diner.
  • Pouch 2: Chapter 10 – After either sneaking past or killing the first sets of Disciples, instead of following Esmeralda Torres to the entrance to her Safe House, check the bed of the truck directly opposite the hatch for this pouch.
  • Pouch 3: Chapter 13 – On a dead MOBIUS agent right near Julian Sykes' Safe House guarded by several Disciples.

Tips[]

  • Try conserving Sniper Rifle ammo for strong enemies early on. Laments come to mind as they can be quite tough to manage with the more basic firearms, whereas one squared headshots will drop them even without any upgrades.

Trivia[]

  • The Sniper Rifle is basically a bolt-action rifle shaped to the rough form and dimensions of a SVD, albeit severely truncated and shrunk down length-wise. The magazine being in contact with the trigger guard is more typical of a Romanian PSL sniper rifle, a weapon visually similar to the SVD often used as a substitute for it in movies. Its bolt and "bridged" top receiver shape also resembles those of a Remington MSR.
  • The Sniper Rifle had wooden furniture in the pre-release versions of the game. As of now it has been switched to using synthetic parts.
